Books

Books written or edited by me, including guides (Time Out, Eyewitness, Thailand Travellers Companion), my influential bestseller, Very Thai: Everyday Popular Culture, the go-to text and style reference that defined the category of informal urban Thainess, and my acclaimed new book Very Bangkok: In the City of the Senses.

I was the founding editor of Bangkok’s capital’s first listings magazine Metro. I have also written articles for international media, including The Economist, The Guardian, Mekong Review, Nikkei Asia, Daily Telegraph, Attitude, Art Asia Pacific, the Bangkok Post and the Jakarta Post.

Clients include: the semiotics agency Space Doctors (London, Singapore) and Mute (Thailand), for companies like P&G, Reckitt Colman, Johnnie Walker; the artist Dow Wasiksiri; and such Thai organisations as TAT, TCEB & the Department of Trade & Export Promotion.

Essays in Books

I have written articles or chapters in several book compilations for major publishers such as Time Out, Monocle and Editions Didier Millet, as well as catalogues for Bangkok Art Biennale and the Somewhere Thai graphic design symposium.

Editing

I was the founding editor of Bangkok’s first city listings magazine, Bangkok Metro.

I also edited books including Thailand Traveller’s Companion and was Editorial Consultant on Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom, a book with many of the world’s legendary photographers.
